The Department of Computer Science at the University of Houston offers Computer Science courses at Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. levels. Our courses are scheduled during the day and in the evening to accommodate both full-time and part-time students.
For information about admission to our undergraduate program and rules governing the BS degree, please consult our Undergraduate Studies page. The B. S. Program in Computer Science has been accredited by the Computer Science Accreditation Commission of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board since 1987.
For information about admission to our graduate programs and rules governing the MS and Ph.D. degrees, please consult our Graduate Studies page. The Master of Science in Computer Science is a 30-hour masters program consisting of eight courses and an M. S. thesis. While most students attend classes on campus, the program may also be completed without coming to the University of Houston campus on a regular basis, since selected courses are taught over live/interactive Instructional Television (ITV) at remote and corporate sites. For more information, please read the Distance Education page.
Students not meeting the admission requirements, but having credentials suggesting competent performance in graduate work, may be admitted as a Post Baccalaureate student until the requirements for admission are fulfilled.
Course Advising
All graduate students must obtain initial course advising. This is a
formal process that should be done before taking any classes. Any
graduate classes taken before initial course advising is completed will
not count towards the student's graduate degree.
Graduate Courses
All 6000 and 7000 level Computer Science classes are only for Computer
Science graduate students. Anyone else must obtain, in writing, the
approval of the instructor and the approval of the Director of Graduate
Studies. This approval will not be granted if the student does not have
the prerequisite(s) for the course.
