Financial Support

Approximately 75 of our current graduate students receive financial support from the Computer Science Department. Another 40 work in other on-campus jobs. Those working in teaching, research or graduate assistant positions are eligible to receive a monthly stipend, an out-of-state tuition waiver, a tuition fellowship, and health insurance benefits.

Financial support for master’s students is limited and you should not plan on joining our program if financial support is essential.   Master’s students who excel in our program have a good chance of obtaining financial support in later semesters.

Ph.D. students receive preference when granting financial aid.

Teaching Assistantships
The application materials of incoming students that have indicated interest in an assistantship position will be used for the basis of the award. Awards are made at the time of admission. Currently enrolled students with excellent academic records are given preference over incoming students for teaching assistantships.

Research Assistantships
Research assistantships are granted by individual professors and are generally offered to current students. Students are free to contact faculty members, but are discouraged from doing so until admission has been granted.

Fellowships/Scholarships
All successful applicants to the graduate program are considered for offers of limited, competitive scholarships. Awards are made at the time of admission. Applicants are encouraged to apply for other national or international awards such as Hertz, NSF, and NDSEG.
