The Department of Biology and Biochemistry is searching for a part-time Research Programmer. The Research Programmer will be responsible for programming and statistical analysis of large-scale DNA and protein data in completely sequenced genomes of model organisms (e.g., rice and other cereal crop genomes).
Requires: Experience of programming with Perl, C (C++ or Java), and SQL; experience with biostatistics analysis.
Prefers: Experience of bioinformatics, some knowledge of molecular biology, molecular genetics or genomics, or basic skills in searching genomic databases. Basic knowledge about molecular evolution and evolutionary genomics would be beneficial but not required.
The position is currently available for at least one year. The ideal candidates may include those obtaining degrees in Computer Sciences, Statistics, Biostatistics, or other disciplines with some experience or knowledge of biology; or those having degrees in fields of biology with enough experience of or skills in computational programming.
