| Two research assistant positions are available at Optometry for the spring semester of 2006. Both positions are for software development to support a research projects in physiological optics and vision science.
The first position involves image processing and scientific computing for analysis of image stacks from a confocal microscope. Current topics include cellular morphometry and image segmentation. The second position is to expand an application that exports summary data from data files and images from a number of clinical instruments using automation. Applicants are asked to describe projects that they have implemented for the following applications. Please also describe experience with the following tools. Experience in all areas is not required, but greatest consideration will be given to candidates that have experience in more of these areas. APPLICATIONS

We are seeking applicants that are able to work with a minimum of instruction and supervision. They should be comfortable with their ability to quickly learn to use new development tools from manuals and example programs. They should be confident in their ability to develop and debug complete, stand-alone applications using various programming languages. Applicants should be comfortable installing hardware and software for personal computer systems. Applicants must be graduate students at the University of Houston. The position is 50% FTE (20 hours per week). Applicants that are available for 12 months will be given greatest consideration.
