We are seeking a talented Spam Data Engineer to join the Proofpoint Attack Response Center as part of our Spam Data Analysis team. As a Spam Data Engineer, you will be part of a world class team responsible for real-time detection and blocking of spam email for Proofpoint's substantial and growing customer global customer base.
Job responsibilities include:

    * Developing new spam detection algorithms and rules

    * Working with other members of Spam Team to facilitate rapid deployment of newly-created rules and spam updates to customer base

    * Categorization of email messages in English and other languages

Requirements:

    * Perl programming skills including writing regular expressions (regex) and similar algorithms
    * Basic feature engineering skills with focus on the foreign language phrase extraction
    * Data mining skills including basic database experience (MySQL)
    * Basic experience with Unix operating environment
    * BS in Computer Science or equivalent


    * Desired skills: Near-native fluency in one of the following languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese
    * Knowledge of HTML markup, especially as it relates to spam techniques.
    * Basic knowledge of RFC 822 and SMTP protocol
    * 3+ years experience in a similar role
