University of Houston Third Annual Workshop on Interdisciplinary Computational Science - March 22-24, 2007

This event is sponsored by:

The Third Annual Workshop on Interdisciplinary Computational Science will take place at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel on campus on Thursday and Friday, March 22-23, 2007 and will follow by a tutorial in parallel computing on Saturday, March 24, 2007.

This will follow the previous two workshops that we had in collaboration with the College of Technology in April 2005 and March 2006 -http://www.cs.uh.edu/conferences.shtml

The motivation stays the same:  provide an efficient forum in computational science that allows us to promote collaboration in this highly interdisciplinary research and expose our graduate students to this broad area.

A tutorial with hands-on practice will complete the workshop and be organized by Edgar Gabriel - http://www.cs.uh.edu/~gabriel/

We will have nine invited speakers who are leaders in their respective fields. Invited speakers are:

  • Dr. David Keyes, Columbia University
  • Dr. Michael Resch, University of Stuttgart, Germany
  • Dr. John Boisseau, University of Texas
  • Dr. David Anderson, University of California, Berkeley
  • Dr. Mary Wheeler, University of Texas at Austin
  • Dr. Michel Bercovier, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
  • Dr. Roland Glowinski, University of Houston
  • Dr. Charles A. Taylor, Stanford University
  • Dr. Thierry Colin, University of Bordeaux 1.

This time the workshop will put particular emphasis on computational medicine (in its most broad sense) and energy/environment applications. Fundamental work on algorithms, methods, and tools (with or without any applications) is indeed always welcome because necessary to any of our work. The new journal in computational science named, “Journal of Algorithms and Computational Technology” – editor in chief C.-H. Lai – has agreed to have a special issue that will publish the best papers of this workshop.

The extended abstracts should be one page long, which should include the name of the author and the Title.  All abstracts should be forwarded to Brenda Stevens:  bstevens@uh.edu.
