Requirements and Design of Grid Portals with

Application to EZ-Grid

Abstract

Grid portals provide a convenient way for the scientific community to access grids; they have the potential to eliminate many of the difficulties faced when using a grid. But, grid portal technology is still at the development stage and detailed analysis of requirements and implementation techniques is needed. We are constructing the EZ-Grid Portal, a comprehensive Graphical User Interface that is intended to provide the key features needed to access grid services. As part of the EZ-Grid Portal development, extensive research has been performed to determine the functionality required if portals are to make usage of grids easy. Based upon our requirements analysis and a study of existing portals, we have redesigned an earlier version of EZ-Grid and are implementing our ideas in Java. Key design concepts such as modularity and extensibility were especially considered while designing the EZ-Grid Portal.
