In Fall 2007, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Houston added Game Development courses to its curriculum. Today, UH is a gaming powerhouse with students competing in national and international game design competitions. Students are encouraged to make games that not only educate, but entertain. The Department of Computer Science is committed to help students achieve a career in programming, game programming, game development, computer graphics and computer animation.

The Computer Science Department offers four courses in interactive game development, including two in development and two in game arts and animation. Courses include: Introduction to Game Development, Intermediate Game Development, Introduction to Game Arts and Animation, Intermediate Game Arts and Animation.

Using Microsoft XNA Game Studio and C# for programming, students design and create 3D models using 2D and 3D graphics tools used in the gaming industry. Students learn about the implementation of 3D assets in the game environment, understand overall game design and development processes, and are actively involved in individual and team-based game projects.

UH Gaming Achievements

2010

US Imagine Cup 2010:  Teams Ifrit Salsa (RoboRecycler), second prize winner, and LeveL 13 (Antitoxin Squad), third prize winners, were ranked two of the top 10 in the US and advanced to the National Finals. 

International Imagine Cup 2010(Ongoing):  Teams .exe (The Waver), Fallout (Hemofliction), LeveL 13 (Antitoxin Squad), and UH Cougar (RobotCraft2) advanced to Round 2.  Out of 696 teams in the world, 150 teams advanced to Round 2.  Among 150 teams, 13 teams advanced from the US, and 4 out of those 13 teams are from University of Houston.

2009

International Imagine Cup 2009:  Team UH Cougar (RobotCraft) was ranked one of the top 150 teams in the world (the top 20 teams were not announced)

2008

International Imagine Cup 2008:  Team Awesome (Ozone Riders) was ranked one of the top 20 teams in the world
