Students and Faculty Participate in the Largest Event for Women in Technology

The Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC), named after Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, is the largest technology event highlighting the achievements of women in the field of computing. The conference, presented in partnership with the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), brings together leaders from academia, industry and government for a three-day energizing event.

Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC)The year, the conference was held in Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center, October 14-16. It drew the largest attendance ever with around 12,000 registered participants.

Participants at the conference learned from world experts about the breath of research in computer science and the hot topics in the field. They also got a chance to network with people from all over the world and to attend career coaching sessions. A major plus for students soon to graduate was the career exhibit that included booths from all major IT companies taking resumes from interested applicants.

UH’s Department of Computer Science, with support from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, was an academic gold sponsor and provided support for close to 40 participants!

Next year, GHC will be in Houston again, so we’re already anticipating a strong participation of our CS community.
