Spring Career Fair Connecting Students with Career Opportunities
Computer Science Students Make Career Connections

Over 300 students and 36 companies participated in the Spring 2016 Computer Science Career Fair held at the Hilton University of Houston on February 10. The Department of Computer Science and CougarCS student organization team up and co-organize the career fair every semester and successfully hosted this semester’s event.

"Both in terms of student attendees and companies, this is by far the largest CS Career Fair that the Department of Computer Science and CougarCS ever hosted. The fact that it happened in a Spring Career Fair where the smaller number of companies and students attend compared to the Fall Career Fair surprises me. Thirty-six companies such as IBM, HP, DropBox, ExxonMobil, JP Morgan Chase and Citi showed up to recruit our students," said Dr. Chang Yun, assistant professor and CougarCS faculty advisor.

Additional career opportunities filled the week with companies hosting information sessions and interview sessions. Independent information sessions were hosted by SAS, Dropbox, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Targa Resources. “SAS was excited to participate with the Computer Science Department to find top talented students to join us at SAS. We are beginning to build a brand name at the University of Houston, and I am excited to see where that will go in future semesters,” said Lindsay Whitfield, University Recruiting Outreach Specialist at SAS.

The Career Fair is an integral component of the Friends of Computer Science program intended to build a broad-based relationship between the Department of Computer Science and companies that have a strong interest in a high-quality computing program at UH.

Eight companies: Chevron, ExxonMobil, Flow-Cal, Intergraph Corporation, Pariveda Solutions, PROS, Spectra Energy, and Two Sigma supported the event as Friends of Computer Science members. The Friends of CS program is designed to meet the needs of industry and offer companies the opportunity to have a greater impact in the development of the computer science work force.
