Research
Dr. Karmonik is an assistant professor of physics in the Radiology Department of the Weill Medical College, Cornell University as well as The Methodist Hospital/The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in Houston, TX. He is an accomplished research scientist who specializes in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and software development. He has extensive experience in the signal processing techniques and computational image post-processing algorithms and 2D/3D visualization methods in both health care and oil and gas industries.

Education and experience
Dr. Karmonik received his masters of science in Physics and doctorate in Physical Chemistry from the University of Saarbrücken, Germany. After completing his doctorate in 1996, he worked as a visiting scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD where he led neutron-scattering research experiments to study diffusion effects in ceramic materials. From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Karmonik used magnetic resonance for high-resolution imaging of vascular disease as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine/The Methodist Hospital. Dr. Karmonik expanded his portfolio of NMR techniques to include oil well logging through the design of NMR pulse sequences and the development of calibration methods for a downhole NMR spectrometer, working with the Wireline operations group from 2000 to 2002 at Schlumberger in Houston, TX. In September 2002, he became an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology at Baylor/Methodist Hospital. In October 2006, he joined the Radiology Department at the Joan and Sanford Weill Medical College, Cornell University
