Computer Science Undergraduate Program Accreditation

Accreditation

Our Computer Science undergraduate program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc (ABET). In accordance with ABET requirements, we have developed, in consultation with our constituencies, educational objectives for our Computer Science undergraduate program.

Educational Objectives and Outcomes of the Program

Preamble: Graduates of the Computer Science Undergraduate Program obtain employment in a wide variety of computer related fields; others further their education by pursuing graduate degrees. Regardless of the career path they choose, we believe that an education in computer science will prepare them for a productive professional experience, and we strive to provide them with the technical, team-working, communication, and professional skills necessary for success.

We establish the following Program Educational Objectives for our Program:

  • To provide a broad and sound undergraduate education in accordance with the 2008 Computer Science Curriculum recommended by IEEE/ACM Interim Review Task Force.
  • To prepare students for success careers as computer science professionals.
  • To prepare academically talented students to pursue graduate studies in computer science and related fields.
  • Our graduate will be engaged in self-development activities which enhance their general learning skills and allow them to adapt to evolving technical challenges and changing career opportunities.

In accordance with ABET requirements, we have developed, in consultation with our constituencies, the following outcomes for our Program:

  • Students who complete the degree will obtain sound knowledge and experience in the design and development of software systems.
  • Students will obtain sound knowledge in the principles and theory of computer systems.
  • Students will obtain knowledge and experience concerning the applications of computer systems.
  • Program graduates will develop the ability for working in teams and demonstrate strong communication skills and leadership.
  • Program graduates will obtain an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities and the ability to analyze the impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and the society.
  • Program graduates will obtain in-depth knowledge in some subfields of computer science through elective courses and special problems courses.
  • Students will be given the opportunity to actively participate in challenging departmental research projects.
