Department of Computer Science
Undergraduate Excellence Award 2011 - 2012

Application Deadline: April 23, 2012

Purpose

The Department of Computer Science Undergraduate Excellence Award recognizes students who have maintained a record of academic excellence and/or made outstanding leadership and service contributions to the University or the surrounding communities.

Award

Awards will be given in two categories:

a) Category I: Award recipients will have completed at least 5, but no more than 10, COSC courses, and

b) Category II: Award recipients will have completed at least 10 COSC courses.

Three awards are given each year, in each of the categories. Award recipients receive will a cash award and will be honored at a luncheon at the end of the spring semester, attended by family and faculty.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate student in Computer Science major
  • An overall GPA at UH of at least 3.25
  • The GPA in all COSC courses of at least 3.25
  • The applicant must have completed at least five COSC courses, but no more than 10 (for Category I)
  • The applicant must have completed at least ten COSC courses (for Category II)

Selection Criteria

  • Academic achievement and recognition
  • Leadership, service, and extra-curriculum activities, including but not limited to CougarCS, Career Fair, Programming Contest, and other community services
  • Personal initiative
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Academic record in COSC and at UH
