Scholarships
There are several scholarship opportunities available to computer science students at the university, college and department level. We encourage our computer science students to apply for every scholarship opportunity available. All computer science scholarships are awarded for one academic year (fall and spring semesters) to entering freshman and continuing undergraduates. The Computer Science Scholarship Committee, which is comprised of computer science faculty representatives, awards the computer science scholarships. The Computer Science Scholarship Committee evaluates all applications and informs students of the results. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and must meet all other admission requirements for the University of Houston and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. An applicant transferring from another institution must have a minimum transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher and completed at least one mathematics course and one computer science course with a mathematics and computer science GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicant must be an undergraduate computer science student in good standing at the University of Houston with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all COSC UH courses. Applicant should have 24 or more semester credit hours remaining in the degree program at the time the scholarship is awarded. Disbursements will be made in two equal increments in the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters directly into the recipient’s student account upon verification of enrollment, major, and minimum qualification requirements. Scholarship recipients must enroll in and complete a minimum course load of twelve semester credit hours (full-time enrollment) as a computer science major, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout the academic year. The scholarship committee considers scholarship, leadership, and civic involvement in making the selection. Scholarship is the most important component of an application, and the committee will determine the relative weight given to other criteria. Recipients of these scholarships may apply for (and accept) other scholarships, grants, or awards for which the recipients are eligible. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013. The department will accept scholarship applications for the 2013-2014 academic year beginning Monday, March 18, 2013. Full consideration will be given to all applications received by the deadline. Complete the 2013-2014 COSC scholarship application form to be considered for a computer science scholarship. Your application package must include the current year’s scholarship application form, an official copy of your transcript (required for incoming freshmen submitting high school transcripts and new transfer students submitting transcripts from other universities/institutions), resume and one letter of recommendation. Completed application, official transcripts (freshman applicants and new transfer students), resume and one letter of recommendation can be delivered, emailed or mailed to the department. Scholarship recipients will be notified of an award by the end of May 2013. Scholarship recipients must sign and return scholarship award notification letter to the Department by indicated date. Recipients who fail to register for classes (at least 12 semester credit hours) by the published UH late registration deadline will also constitute automatic forfeiture of the scholarship.Eligibility
