Online/Classroom Hybrid Courses
Department
of Computer Science will offer the following courses with "hybrid"
sections in Spring 2006, concurrent with regular classroom sections.

Interactive Computer Graphics (COSC4370) by Professor Olin Johnson |
| 2. |
Introduction to Computer Networks (COSC4377) by Professor Jaspal Subhlok |
The hybrid sections will have the following basic structure.

Tablet
PC based recorded lectures from the regular classroom
sections will be made available as streaming video to
Hybrid section students through VNet (vnet.uh.edu).

| 2. |
All homework assignments will be posted online and the solutions
can be submitted online.
|
| 3. |
The
hybrid section will meet for quizzes, exams, specific
discussions, tutorials demonstrations, and hands on work
sessions. The class is scheduled once a week but the actual
meeting days will be decided and posted by the instructor.
We anticipate approximately one meeting every 2 weeks
as a rough average.

| 4. |
The
instructors will be available during office hours and by
appointment for individual consultations. |
| Hybrid
sections are part of a pilot project of the Computer Science
Department to offer a series of courses that offer students
considerable flexibility but do not sacrifice the personal
interaction that is also important for learning. The course
may be particularly suitable for students who have logistical
difficulty reaching the campus, perhaps because of work.
Additional hybrid sections will be offered in coming semesters
with an initial emphasis on senior level electives. |
