Before joining the University of Houston, Dr. Pâris was faculty at Purdue University and the University of California, San Diego. He received his Ingénieur Civil degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, his Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI), France, his Licence et Maîtrise en Informatique from the Université de Namur, Belgium and his PhD in EECS from the University of California, Berkeley.

My background is in applied performance evaluation. I look at problems where the choice of the right policy has a direct impact on the performance of computer systems. Depending of the problem, my co-authors and I have used probabilistic models, discrete-event simulation, and/or trace-driven simulation. My two current areas of interest are

Most of my work is joint work with colleagues and associate members of the Storage Systems Research Center of the University of California, Santa Cruz,

I have openings for master's or doctoral students desirous to take me as an adviser but can only offer support through TA positions. I am especially looking for one or two MS students willing to work hard to complete their MS theses in twelve months or less.
