I am Yonghong Yan, graduated from the University of Houston with Ph.D. in Computer Science in May 2007. During my study, I was with with Dr. Barbara Chapman in the High Performance Computing Tools group of the Department of Computer Science. My research interest are broad in the system area of computer science, ranging from distributed and grid computing, operating systems and compiler, high performance and parallel computing, to low level computer architecture. My Ph.D. research is to design and develop an adaptive scheduler for scientific complex applications, typically workflow applications, in distributed and grid systems. It turns out a much more complex problem and involves much more background than what it first looked to me. It drove me to develop my knowledge and interest in those system area and finally I started the GRACCE project to address the whole issue of scheduling in distributed and grid systems. Checkout the GRACCE website for details and by the way, it is funded as part of the Center of Excellence (COE) in the Geosciences and the Center of Excellence in High Performance Application Development of Sun Microsystems.
I am from China and have been in Houston for about 6 years. I especially enjoy making friends with Texans.
You will notice my Texas accent in my English. Oh, my Chinese name is
